Digital Whitewater: Putting us on the map |
In the age of the Internet and smart phones, a community's economic development depends on being visible – business and community resources need to be easily “discoverable” on these new technologies. These same technologies also allow communities to highlight what makes them special and differentiate themselves from other regions. The goal of the "Digital Whitewater" project is to literally put Whitewater on the map and allow residents and customers to easily find the businesses and assets of the community.

The "Digital Whitewater" project will take the first significant step toward achieving this goal by developing a community base map of businesses and key resources and making this base map available through "embedded" web maps, mobile devices, and enhancements to Google maps. In addition, the project will provide training to businesses to enhance their web presence and allow the project partners to update their members' information on the maps. This base map will provide the basis for future projects which could include virtual historic tours, events such as garden and/or arts walks, downtown highlights, and mapping of key business resources such as industrial parks and special tax districts.

The Think Whitewater Buy Local committee was eager to have the value card be apart of the buy local program and the Whitewater Area Chamber of Commerce stepped forward to be a partner and to help provide a larger networking venue.
